Over the past few months the PHS music department has been working hard to prepare for the Smokefree Rockquest and the Tauranga Jazz Festival. We have had workshops with visiting experts such as Dr Rodger Fox from the New Zealand School of Music, Dr Mark Baynes host of the 95bfm Jazz show and Tom Chester, one of Auckland’s top conductors. PHS students have benefited immensely from their experience and input and have been inspired to make that extra push in their personal rehearsal time. Thanks to all students for their continued hard work.
Most recently, the PHS music department took to the road, heading to Patumahoe, Puni and Aka Aka, to perform for our annual primary school tour. It was a great to be out performing and connecting with our community; thanks for having us!
One of our first results is in for the year and special congratulations goes to Bridget Nissen who won first place in the Smokefree Rockquest Solo duo category – Well done!
Our next events are the Smokefree Rockquest band section on Friday the 17th of June and the Tauranga Jazz festival on Tuesday the 21st of June.
See you all there.
Ngaa mihi nui
