Our new Pukekohe High School newsletter provides an opportunity for the Board of Trustees (BOT) to regularly connect with our community and discuss the school’s priorities and projects.
This year, the school’s latest Education Review Office assessment was published. The updates to the review are significant because the previous review raised many concerns and the school was placed under ‘annual review’, meaning that Ministry of Education officials had to approve all plans and projects. The 2021 review was very favourable and the school is now able to operate without annual approval. The review can be found on the Education Review Office website here.
In 2021, the school introduced a new strategic plan, ‘Learning without Limits’. The plan was developed with input from staff and the community and can be found here.
A key priority is improving student attendance and reducing truancy. At the end of last term, we started working with Pukekohe Intermediate School, local police, Franklin Attendance Service, Auckland Council, Pukekohe Business Association and Franklin Local Board to encourage a more coordinated approach to tackling truancy. The school also recently appointed an attendance officer, Waiki Taiapa, who is working hard with individual students, school staff and police to keep students in school.
You will see advertising reminding people of our school hours, and that no student should be outside the school during those hours. The aim is to demonstrate to our community that the school is committed to high standards of behaviour starting with students being in school.
As parents we can all help our children’s attendance through the KAMAR app. By supporting school and community initiatives on attendance and truancy, the board is helping to improve education for all our young people.
Finally, please note that meetings of the Board of Trustees are open to the public. We meet each month on a Monday evening at 6pm and we welcome your attendance. Feel free to email me directly: [email protected]
